Save setting
Using the button "Save setting" you can save the current settings of SizeMyPics for later using. So there is no need to do the same adjustments over and over again. You can load the settings using the popup-selector "Load setting" from the upper right of the window. When clicking on the Save setting button you will be prompted to enter a unique name for your setting.
Load setting
By using the popup-selector "Load setting" you can load a saved setting. SizeMyPics will adjust all parameters saved for this setting automatically.
General Tab
Adding files
The images SizeMyPics should process have to be added to the file-collector. There are different ways to do so:
by Drag'n Drop from the Finder or another file-browser
by using the + button add files
You can add more than just one file to the file-collector, even folders with pictures can be added to the file-collector. By adding files to the file-collector, SizeMyPics will check these file if those are valid image-files. If a file is not a (supported) image-file, this file won't be added to the file-collector.
Clear file-collector
Using the button "Clear" all files from the file-collector will be removed. Alternatively you can select all files and remove them be clicking the - button.
Remove files+
By using the - button all selected files will be removed from the file-collector. Alternatively you can also use the delete-key to remove the selected files from the file-collector.
Add files using the add-button
Using the + button you can add files to the file-collector. Therefore a file-dialog will be opened from where you can choose the desired files. The file-dialog is configured so only image-files and folders can be added. When adding folders to the file-collector, SizeMyPics will automatically check these folders for valid image-files and adds them to the file-collector.
If you add a folder to SizeMyPics, SizeMyPics will also search for subfolders. If there are any, SizeMyPics will ask you if these subfolders should be added to the list too.
Selecting output-format
Using the format popup-selection you choose the image-format for your to be processed images. This option has to be chosen to start the batch-processing.
Selecting quality
Using this popup-selector, which will apear automatically when the format JPG is selected, you can set the image-quality for your pictures. Next to four predefined quality-options, there is also an option to set the quality individually. When choosing the individual option the quality-slider becomes available, so you can adjust the wanted quality.
Adjusting quality manually
The quality-slider is only available when the option Individual has been selected from the quality popup-selector.
Selecting image-dimension-calculation
Using this popup-selector you can determine the way how the image-dimensions should be calculated. If you don't choose a calculation method, the dimensions of the images keep untouched.
For calculation values from the x-textfield (width) and the y-textfield (height) are being used. Following calculation-options are available:
shrink to fit
All files with dimensions larger than specified, will be recalculated to the given dimensions. Pictures smaller than the dimensions specified remain untouched.
enlarge to fit
All files with dimensions smaller than specified, will be recalculated to the given dimensions. Pictures larger than the dimensions specified remain untouched.
shrink or enlarge to fit
All files which are larger or smaller than the specified dimensions will be recalculated.
shrink to exact
All files whose dimensions are larger than the specified dimensions will be recalculated to the exact dimensions, ignoring any aspect ratio of the original file. Pictures smaller than the specified dimensions remain untouched.
enlarge to exact
All files whose dimensions are smaller than the specified dimensions will be recalculated to the exact dimensions, ignoring any aspect ratio of the original file. Pictures larger than the specified dimensions remain untouched.
shrink or enlarge to exact
All files will be recalculated to the given dimensions ignoring the aspect ratio of the original file.
Resize to fit height
Using this option the picture will set to the given height. The width will be set proportionally to the set height. Therefore all resulting images will have the sane height.
Resize to fit width
Using this option the picture will set to the given width. The height will be set proportionally to the set width. Therefore all resulting images will have the sane width.
crop to exact
Using this option, the images will be cropped to the specified dimensions. The image is being cropped towards the center of the image. When selecting this option, the additional option to select a padding-color will appear. With this option you can select a color by clicking on the color-well, which will fill empty areas in your images, if there are any. Additionally you can specify a crop-position. Using this option gives you control which part of the image should be cropped. If you're not sure how it will look, you can click on the preview-button in the bottom-bar to display a preview of the resulting image.
Crop to height
Using this option, the image will be cropped to the specified height. The width remains unchanged.
Crop to width
Using this option, the image will be cropped to the specified width. The height remains unchanged.
Resize to height / crop / pad with color
Using this option, firstly the image will be resized to the desired height, then the width will be cropped to the desired width. If the width is smaller than the desired width, the "empty" space will be padded with color.
Resize to width / crop / pad with color
Using this option, firstly the image will be resized to the desired width, then the height will be cropped to the desired height. If the height is smaller than the desired height, the "empty" space will be padded with color.
proportional resizing
Using this option the image is being resized proportionally given the specified values. Please note, using this option both, the values for width (x-value) and height (y-value), have to be specified.
change resolution (DPI)
By selecting this option you can change the resolution of your images. For example you can change image with a resolution of 300dpi to 72dpi. The pixel-dimensions won't be changed in this process.
Please note, when resizing images from format-types like PSD or PNG, transparency and layers won't be preserved.
Define image-dimensions
The fields for the x- and y-value specify the output dimensions of the converted file. You don't need to fill both fields, if a value is not specified, the original value of the source-image will be used.
Selecting save-behaviour
By using the save-destination-list you determine the destination for the converted folder. Four options are available:
Same as original
The converted files will be saved to the same folder where the original picture lies. If original and converted file bear the same file-name, to the converted file will be added a number.
Same as original, overwrite originals
The converted files will be saved to the same folder where the original picture lies. If original and converted file bear the same file-name, to the converted file will overwrite the original.
Appropriate subfolder
All converted files will be saved in a sub-folder, corresponding to the original file. The name of this sub-folder can be changed within the preferences of SizeMyPics.
All to one location
All files will be saved to a specified location. When selecting this option, the path-bar become available, so a destination-folder can be selected.
Choosing destination-folder
These interface-elements only become available when the option "All to one location" has been selected from the Save to popup-selector. Click on the path-bar to select the desired destination-folder.
Watermark Tab
Adding an image-watermark
If you want to add a watermark-image to your processed images, you need to check the "Add Watermark-Image"-Checkbox. After choosing a watermark-image you want to add, you have some options to configure the watermark-image. Next to placement, you can also specify size and opacity of the watermark-image. If you're not sure how it will look, you can click on the preview-button in the bottom-bar to display a preview of the resulting image.
Adding a text-watermark
If you want to add a watermark-text to your processed images, you need to check the "Add Watermark-Text"-Checkbox. After entering a watermark-text you want to add, you have some options to configure the watermark-text. Next to placement, you can also specify font-size, -style and -color of the watermark-text. If you're not sure how it will look, you can click on the preview-button in the bottom-bar to display a preview of the resulting image.
Renaming Tab
Add prefix
Using this option you can add to the file-names of the converted pictures a prefix. For example, your picture bears the name Photo. jpg and you choose New- as prefix, the resulting file-name will be New-Photo. jpg.
Add suffix
Using this option you can add to the file-names of the converted pictures a suffix. For example, your picture bears the name Photo. jpg and you choose -New as suffix, the resulting file-name will be Photo-New. jpg.
Add date
By selecting this option you can add a date to the converted file-names. The format of the date can be adjusted within the preferences of SizeMyPics. On start SizeMyPics selects the current date, but you can change the date by clicking into one of the three elements and type in the desired date.
Add numbering
By selecting this option you can auto-number your processed files. Therefore a number to the existing file-name will be added. You can specify the start-number by typing the desired number into the textfield right next to. Additionally you can specify, if numbering should be appended before or after the file-name.
Rename all files
By checking this option, all converted files will be renamed. By using this option, the option of auto-numbering will be automatically selected and can't be deselected as long the renaming option is selected.
There is no need to specifically enter a new name, if you want your converted files to bear numbers as names only. Please note, some characters aren't allowed for file-names, like < > ? \ " : | / *. These characters will be filtered automatically before renaming.
Begin batch-processing
By clicking on the button "Process all images" the batch-process begins. Therefore a sheet will appear in the SizeMyPics-window giving you details about the process. You can stop the process by clicking the Cancel-button, please note, there can be a small delay when stopping the process. The currently processed image will be finished before the complete process will be stopped. When the batch-process has been completed, you see this by the filled progress-bar and the activated OK-button.
To start the batch-processing, you can instead of clicking on the button, also use the following shortcut: CMD+Enter.
Special check unter Sandbox (10.7 and higher)
Starting with version 10.7 of OSX, the security-mechanism Sandbox has been introduced. Plain said, this mechanism protects your data/files. Therefore every application running under this system needs to be granted with permissions by the user to access, write and modify files. To ensure a batch-process without any further input from you, SizeMyPics checks prior the batch-process if there are enough permissions to do all the desired tasks. If that's not the case, you'll be presented with a sheet listing all the folders SizeMyPics needs permissions to. There are three options to proceed:
Grant access now
Grant access permanently
Close
Grant access now
Using this button, all problematic folders will be opened with a open-dialog. Grant access to these folders by clicking on the OK-Button. This permission only lasts for the current session. When closing SizeMyPics, SizeMyPics will lose permission to these folders.
Grant access permanently
This option is identical to "Grant access now", but the given permission will be saved and are available the next time you use SizeMyPics. Therefore you don't need to grant access to these folders each time you use SizeMyPics. Within the preferences of SizeMyPics you can withdraw the permissions be removing the folders in the given list.
Close
When using this button, you don't grant SizeMyPics the extra-permission, but the batch-process won't started then.
Bottom Bar
Change metadata
By using this button the Metadata-Drawer will be opened. You can add to your converted files following metadata-attributes:
Copyright
Artist
Camera-Modell
Camera-Manufacturer
Alternatively you can click on the checkboxes to remove the corresponding metadata-attributes from the converted files which would be otherwise transported from the original file to the converted file.
The last option is to remove all existing Metadata/EXIF. Using this option, SizeMyPics tries to remove all existing Metadata. Es some special cases some Metadata/EXIF can remain.
Preview Images
When clicking on the button with the eye-icon, a drawer with a preview of the currently selected image in the file-collector will be displayed. Most settings done in SizeMyPics will force a reload of the preview, so you can quickly see how changes will affect your images.
